I am a fourth year graduate student in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and have been a member of the VUIIS since August 2006. I've had the privilege of working with a variety of talented researchers so far, but I have mainly worked for Drs. John Gore and Cynthia Paschal on a variety of projects related to magnetic resonance .
I have been a proud Vanderbilt Commodore for most of the past 10 years, with a four year stint in industry in-between. I received my BE in Biomedical Engineering and Music from Vanderbilt in 2002 and my MS also in BME in 2008.
I am currently in the process of completing a proposal for my PhD dissertation. Most of the aims will investigate properties of proton relaxation in a variety of tissue models. Proton relaxation processes are the fundamental mechanisms by which contrast is generated in MRI. Obtaining a more quantitative understanding of these effects will help determine optimal ways to utilize MRI to advance clinical imaging.
